Cob Building

For Group Booking

Book a Cob Building Workshop for your group at any time (depending on availability). As a group you will learn how to build with cob (a mixture of sand, clay and straw) in a sculpture and sustainable way. Come for a day or stay for a weekend.

Cob is an ancient building material that has been used for construction since prehistoric times. It is made by mixing clay-based subsoil with straw, sand and water. This earthen mixture is then ladled onto a stone foundation and trodden onto the wall by workers in a process known as cobbing. Cob buildings can and do survive for hundreds of years.

Not only do you get the chance to discover how to make a cosy little building in an aesthetically, sculptural, environmentally friendly material but you get to have loads of fun mixing the stuff with your feet – you can even try bare feet!!!
