Eco Treat - A School Retreat with a difference

Dates: From 1-3 days, throughout the year

A range of vocationally orientated, experiential days working on a variety of sustainable projects and creative activities within the 50 acre Boghill estate. Offering students the opportunity to develop practical ecological, creative and personal development skills, this programme can be tailored to the requirements of the group.

Activities can include:

Sustainable countryside management tasters – paths, ditch clearing and tree planting.
Creative nature activities – natural sculpture making, clay digging, processing and modelling.
Sustainable building techniques – traditional cob and cordwood building techniques.
Nature data collection – collecting and recording data on flora, fauna, wildlife and habitats.
Sustainable living – organic gardening, poultry, horse and pig care, and vegetarian cookery.
A range of complementary indoor activities - ceramics, yoga and relaxation, tribal drumming, willow weaving, flax jewellery making and Indian head massage.
Guided nature tours – The Burren is a stunning and unique limestone landscape, a great opportunity to study geology in action, spot wild flowers and birds, and learn about habitat conservation.
An evening programme of choice - disco, film, cabaret, games or treasure hunt.

Students can create their own activity programme from the options offered – each day can include up to
4 activities as well as an educative nature treasure hunt to start the day and introduce the Boghill experience.

The venue is also available for hire should schools wish to organise their own activities taking advantage of the onsite facilities – 50 acres of land including a nature trail, a natural reed labyrinth, a wildlife pond, a stone circle, an organic vegetable garden and a selection of domestic animals.

The Boghill Centre is a key member of the Burren Ecotourism Network and works in tandem with Sustainable Tourism Ireland.
