In and Around the Boghill Centre

 

The Centre is set in 50 acres of protected bogland, and offers quiet walks both on its own grounds and down quiet country lanes.
If you want to travel further a field  transport can be arranged to more distant attractions if there is enough interest.

Lisdoonvarna

 

The spa town of Lisdoonvarna is approx. 3kms (2mls) away. Famed for its annual Matchmakers Festival in September, the town also boasts The Roadside Tavern and Royal Spa Hotel, both noted traditional music pubs where sessions take place most nights of the week.
Visit the Burren Smoke House and sample their freshly caught Atlantic Smoked Salmon and other delights.
 

 

Kilfenora

 

5kms (3mls) away from the Boghill Centre. There are pubs, craft shops, and the Burren Centre - go in and take the armchair tour of the Burren before you do the real thing!
 

 

Doolin

 

THE music town of west Clare with McGanns, Gus O'Connor's and McDermott's pubs. Live music every night of the week. A beautiful Burren beach too. A half hour from here by boat are the Aran Islands. Our local surfing resort. Visit Lahinch Seaworld (swimming pool plus aquarium and more), or play a round on the International Competition Golf Course. Or visit the Rock Shop, just up the road in Liscannor.

The Burren

 

The spectacular lunar landscape of the Burren, with its limestone pavements, whipped cream mountains and exotic flora and fauna, extends over 80 sq. kms (30 sq. mls), and starts just down the road from here. It really has to be seen to be believed. Click Here for a taste of the area. This site gives lots of information on the Burren - its landscape, flowers, megalithic tombs, and the places of interest surrounding it. Also has links to other Irish sites.
In 1991 it was proposed to build a visitors centre on Mullaghmore, a site of rare natural beauty. There were huge protests, and the Burren Action Group site tells the story so far. Also provides more information on the Burren, and Mullaghmore in particular.
Visit the Aillwee Caves - about 15kms (10mls) from the Boghill Centre, this is the largest showcave in Ireland.
Or how about The Burren Perfumery, with its Visitors' Centre with comprehensive lecture and video on the Burren, plus locally made fragrances etc.

Drive down the Corkscrew Hill to Ballyvaughan, then take the coast road through Fanore and on to Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher. The photos here will give you some idea of the breathtaking view from the top!
