Music Workshops

Traditional Irish Music Workshops

The workshops are open to people who play a traditional instrument catering for all instruments, levels and abilities, whether you are a beginner or an accomplished player. Melodic and accompanying instruments are both catered for.

The week begins on Sunday with an evening meal. Workshops take place every morning Monday to Friday. Afternoons are left free to explore the countryside, practise or just relax. Each evening the group goes to a different session in a variety of local pubs.
The week finishes after breakfast on Saturday, however you can stay longer if you wish or leave earlier.

We invite a different musician to come in to teach each day and aim to cover all instruments of those participating in the workshop.

The workshops are very relaxed and friendly. Music is supposed to be fun.

We don't teach instruments from scratch and participants are expected to have a basic understanding of their instrument.
Due to the nature of the Irish music most of the tuition is done by ear, however notes are provided as well. It is recommended to bring a recording device to record the tunes

Sweat Lodges with Carl Bigheart

Sweat Lodges with Carl Big Heart

Big Heart focuses on building bridges between the world’s wisdom traditions and on healing the relationship between humankind and all living beings. Through healing ceremony with the Sacred Pipe, the sweat lodge and children’s blessings, as well as giving in-depth talks, he seeks to connect us with our own living Earth roots. His work regularly takes him to Holland, Germany, Belgium and to the Republic and Northern Ireland.

“To bring true, effective and lasting healing to the Sacred Hoop of Life, we must join together in one prayer of the heart and flow into unified Spirit. Laying aside our attachment to beliefs, we move beyond form into universal synthesis. We are Spirit in the flesh. God is the life living Itself within each of us:”        (Carl Big Heart)

Sweat Lodges (with Moon Lodge – see below)

Dates:  23rd May - 25th May 2008
             24th Oct - 26th Oct 2008

Separate lodge each day, 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Talk on Friday

Sweat Lodge Information

Eat lightly before the lodge and bring a couple of towels. It is recommended that men wear shorts or bathing suits and women wear a shift or light cotton dress over a bathing suit. Eating together after the Lodge is an important part of our joining together in ceremony, so we encourage people, if possible, to bring good, nourishing food to share.

Ground Fee: €40. The fee/cost is to cover our expenses for the firewood, rent of facilities, transport, etc. Concessions are available — we do not want the cost to discourage anyone from participating, please ask.

Moon Lodge Information

A Moon Lodge is not a Sweat Lodge; it is a space for any woman in her Moon Time who chooses to not participate in the main Purification ceremony. It is also available to any woman who wishes to pray in support of the ceremony taking place in the Sweat Lodge. Every woman is held in a loving, safe environment in which stories, craftwork, meditation and prayers are shared. The Moon Lodge space is deeply connected to the Sweat Lodge throughout the whole ceremony.

Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms® Summer School

This is my 4th year of teaching the 5 rhythms®, movement/dance practice in the Boghill Centre
The Burren from the Gaelic word Boireann is an area of limestone rock covering hills and valleys with meandering streams situated on the Atlantic coast. With its extraordinary array of flora and wildlife, megalithic tombs and monuments older than the pyramids the Burren creates a tapestry of colour and magic unique to this area of Ireland.

In this setting we will dance the 5 Rhythms®, an exhilarating creative movement practice. Through the dance we will become curious about the sources of our passion, investigate our essential, gentle and fun loving nature, and identify the parts of us that hold us back from experiencing lightness and joy in your life.

Everyday we will dance each of the 5 Rhythms®.
We will be guided to enhance our creativity through the medium of collage making.
We will explore and learn about the unique landscape that is the Burren. Yoga will be on offer every morning as a way to start the day.
And there will also be ample time for swimming, relaxing and tasting the local traditional Irish music and dance scene.

This workshop is open to women and men, whether you are coming to dance for the first time or whether you have already been touched by the power of the 5 Rhythms®.

Tutors:
Caitriona Nic Ghiollaphadraig: 5 Rhythms® teacher
Mary Manning: Yoga teacher
Sadhbh O’ Neill: Collage making teacher
Mary Quinlan: Archaeologist and Guide to the Burren

For further information about Caitriona and her teaching check her website: www.deorade.com

Dates: July 21st  lunch at 1pm  -  25th finishing at 4pm

Workshop fee:  The fee is €650 for shared dormitory accommodation and €700 for single or double rooms. It includes meals, materials and tuition fees.

A deposit of €200 (non-refundable, non-transferable) must be sent together with the booking form below to confirm a booking. The full fee must be paid by July 11th .

Cancellation policy: Please note that the deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable in all cases.

This work can be deeply healing but is not therapy. Participants are strongly recommended to secure or establish the support structures within their own lives, as they must take responsibility for their own mental health and well being when embarking on intense work such as this. Having attended to this the group itself can also be a source of great joy, friendship, shared vulnerability and mutual support.

Booking Information: The number of participants on the workshop is limited so early booking is advisable. Send with deposit to Caitríona Nic Ghiollaphádraig, Finisglen, Recess, Co. Galway, Ireland.

Move Into Life - Autobiographical Movement

"How we move is as distinctive as how we speak. Our movement has its own accents and vocabulary – but we seldom notice them."

Tutor: Sandra Reeve
Dates: 20 - 25 September
Cost: €375.00 + accommodation (single/double/dormitory)

This workshop includes studio and outdoor work and draws together the other three workshops in the cycle (so participants need some Move into Life experience).
You will be invited to select a theme present in your life as you arrive, to move with it and explore it on the Burren, in historical sites, on the ledges, rocks and by the sea. You will work alone and in small groups.

Finally, you will be invited to create and share a short movement piece to help you crystallise your experience and to be witnessed by the others. This can be an extraordinarily powerful way of healing old wounds, restating new intentions or affirming change.

Throughout the workshop you will be guided as you explore new movement forms – focusing as much on future possibilities as on existing beliefs and habits. . It’s a chance to bring your movement ‘up-to-date’, to shed the scars of past experiences and to transform them in many moments of creative
affirmation.

Participants often leave feeling exhilarated and well equipped to achieve fundamental change in their lives.

What is Move into Life?

Move into Life is a gentle, but powerful, way of experiencing your movement afresh and making changes. Find how your movement changes with your condition, your mood, state of mind, surroundings and other people.

Move into Life workshops help you become aware of how you move. This can shed light on patterns of anxiety, stress, grief, shyness, excitement and anger, on your relationships, your work-life balance or other daily concerns.

Move into Life is not performance or dance, although applicable to both. It’s about daily movement: there’s no right way to lean against a wall and you won’t be taught one! It draws on Buddhist principles and Amerta Movement, the teaching of Suprapto Suryodarmo.
