Boghill Cob Building
Workshops

Come get muddy with us!
Boogie as you build!
Creative curves, Living roof, Glass bottle windows...

second weekend cob building...Liam and Emma

Discover how to build in a sculptural and environmentally friendly way.
This workshop will give you hands-on experience in the construction of a small cob building including windows, doors, glass bottle facades and a living roof.

So what is cob ?
Cob is an ancient building material that has been used since prehistoric times. It is made by mixing clay with straw, sand and water.
This earthen mixture is then trodden onto the wall in a process known as cobbing.

Eco Experience weeks

Inspire, create, enrich: harmonious proactive living with nature at its heart.

Join one of our new Eco Experience weeks and sample sustainable building techniques alongside creative nature activities…and more!
Either come along for the week or drop in for a day!

Next summer our series of Eco Experience weeks will centre around Cob building.

We plan to have a variety of useful things made out of cob from ovens to tool sheds to our planned Ecological Living Centre.

If you are wondering what on earth cob building is......
Cob is an ancient building material that has been used for construction since prehistoric times. It is made by mixing clay-based subsoil with straw
, sand and water. This earthen mixture is then ladled onto a stone foundation and trodden onto the wall by workers in a process known as cobbing. Cob buildings can and do survive for hundreds of years.

Not only do you get the chance to discover how to make your own home in an aesthetically, sculptural, environmentally friendly material but you get to have loads of fun mixing the stuff with your bare feet!!!

Other activities on this workshop include: Creating kinetic sculptures for our new sculpture trail, wild and free action painting in the landscape, playing in the pottery with our very own Boghill clay, delicious vegetarian cookery, organic gardening, yoga and many more besides. (Please refer to sample program at the bottom of this page.)

In the evenings you can either relax with a good book from our library
or visit a local pub for a traditional
Irish music session!
..........Come along and join in the fun!
