About Cob Building

second weekend cob building...Liam and Emma

Discover how to build in a sculptural and environmentally friendly way.
These workshops will give you hands-on experience in the construction of a small cob
building including windows, doors, glass bottle facades and a living roof.
It is an ancient building technique that has been used since prehistoric times, made
by mixing clay with straw, sand and water. This earthen mixture is then trodden,
shaped and moulded onto the wall in a process known as cobbing.

Eco Experience weeks

Dates 2012:
5th - 11th August
12th - 18th August

A 5 day interactive “Eco Experience” of nature based and creative activities offered by a
key member of the Burren Ecotourism Network. This package includes Sustainable building techniques, Wild Life Surveying, Organic Gardening, Ceramics, Flax Weaving, Natural Sculpture making, a Guided Burren Walk or Guided Bird Watching Tour, Vegetarian Cooking and optional Holistic Therapies and evening Traditional Irish Music and Dancing sessions in the local pubs.

The programme has been designed to create an awareness of environmental interaction and
how to get closer to nature and it includes components of nature interpretation and education
as well as being fun and creative. All activities use resources found on the Boghill estate – clay,
flax and willow as well as the rich biodiversity of animals and plants. The action packed agenda typically starts with yoga stretches in preparation for the experiences in store, followed by a
variety of nature interactive morning workshops. After a delicious two course vegetarian lunch participants are encouraged to take a guided tour around Boghill or the Burren or go on an
organised trip to local attractions. Late afternoon there are a series of informal options including Ceramics Studio Work, Cob building or Natural Weaving Workshops.  Another gourmet
vegetarian meal is followed by a mini-bus trip to a variety of evening entertainment in the
local pubs – music sessions, set dancing or local bands.

We offer an Eco Holiday with a difference - in the words of a previous visitor “a series of very enjoyable experiences in a beautiful secluded natural haven”
